It’s officially summertime. The sun is out and it’s time for backyard grilling and days at the lake or the beach.
This time of year, even the most manly of manly men high-tail it to specialty shops or department stores for skincare and sun care products, as well as to the local barbers for a seasonal trim, and for good reason – getting a trim once the warmer summer months hit is important to keep you comfortable as well as stylish.
Go Shorter for Summer
Men with longer hair typically go shorter in the summer. The summer heat and humidity (especially here in the South) has men running toward the shears, hoping to get some kind of comfort from the feeling of hair sticking on the back of the neck.
According to John Allan, owner of his own string of men’s salons in New York City, frequent maintenance can make shaggy haircuts and beards less uncomfortable. If you usually schedule a trim every four weeks, during the summer you should make it every three, and keep your hair short on the back of the neck to avoid discomfort.
For beards, “Depending on the fullness of your beard,” he says, “you may want to take it down, keeping it tight and clean for the summer months.” This advice is also recommended for men with ‘staches, as it will keep your face much cooler.
Make sure you’re looking cool while the weather is hot. If you’re due for a haircut and beard trim, look no further than Dave’s Barber. Schedule an appointment and we’ll make sure to give you a nice looking trim that will keep you comfortable while manning the grill all summer long.
